George Couros Blog: In Review
George Couros, a classroom technology enthusiast and self proclaimed “Principal of Change, makes a strong case for what he refers to as an “Innovator’s mindset.” He lays out the must have qualities of any teacher who wants to effectively operate in the 21st century.
George is the Division Principal of Parkland School Division in Strony Plain, AB Canada. I found his insight to be striking and inspiring. He advances the idea that we are 16 years into the 21st century, but we still have 84 years to go. None of us, as he notes “could have predicted the iPad, chromebooks, Pokemon Go, or anything else like this.” With constant change in the classroom being driven by technology George poses the question in his Ted Talk, “Are the schools teaching for yesterday or tomorrow?” From this quotation, we see the basis for a large part of his innovation mindset. The world is changing, and we as educators need to change with it. Rehashing the lessons that we were given will not be enough.
Take a closer look at how George Couros says we can promote and why we need an “Innovator’s Mindset.
